Rebecca Makin notched a double win in the Javelin and Hammer as Bolton Harriers put up a strong performance in the National Junior League last weekend. Competing on home territory, the Under 20 team finished 3rd behind City of York and Spenborough. Rebecca threw the Hammer 29.40 metres, before launching the javelin 28.27m.
There were a number of other victories, including wins for Rachel Pounds and Oriel Hardman in the 400m (61.2) and 800m (2:24). Matthew Osbourne picked up another Long Jump victory, and also took 2nd in the 200m in a fast 22.4 secs, and 3rd in the 100m in 11.4 secs. Also in the sprints, Bruce Pilkington won the B 100m in 11.4s and ran 23.1 for 2nd in the 200m B race. Lewis Coulson was another big points scorer, winning the 110m huirdles in 16.9 and the B Long Jump event in 5.70m. In the field, Ricky Lowe took 2nd in the High Jump with a fine leap of 1.80m and then 3rd in the Triple Jump (12.80m).
Harriers were also in action in Preston in the Mid Lancs League, where the Under 13s really shone.
Will Valentine raced to one of the fastest Under 13s times in the country this year, easily winning the 100m in 12.9 seconds. He then completed an impressive double, taking the 200m in 27.1s. Callum Short posted another fantastic time to win his 800m race in 2:21, while Callum Ashton made it a double by winning the other heat in 2:30. Jack Garmory was also a winner, taking the 1500m in a close sprint finish with a time of 5 minutes 12. In the field, Jack Makin was 2nd in the Shot.
In the Under 15s Tom Carson posted a 4:22 clocking in a comfortable 1500m win and Nawaz Hussain was 2nd in the Long Jump.
