The junior league team started the season at Wigan yesterday in wonderful style, winning their match by 24 points against very strong opposition. This is the first time we have won a Junior match for many years. A special mention must be made of Louis Coultons 110 metres hurdles win in 16.9, this ranks him 17th and Olivia McGreevy’s 400m hurdles placed her 50th in the UK Juniors this year. New girl Leanne ran a very calculated 3k in the pouring rain, she kept her own pace then picked off all the other girls one by one finishing in an easy 1st position. In the field events Michael O'Donnell also did UK ranking performances in the Hammer (30th) and Javelin (39th) and Rebecca Makin kicked off her season with a Hammer throw that ranks her 28th best in the country. Ricky Lowe's triple jump put him 65th in the UK rankings. All the "oldies" produced brilliant results and our new to the team U17s Lexi Cochrane, Jack Taylor and Anthony Dunn worked their socks off doing their own events and filling in where they could, Anthony even doing a 800 run instead of his normal 100!
The victory was made all the more satisfying by the team spirit shown by everyone one who competed, many of our athletes competing in several events and this was backed up by very strong runs in all the relays, the athletes have bonded well and become a team to be reckond with.
