Leverhulme Park Athletics Track, the long-established home of Bolton United Harriers, was renovated in 2005 in tandem with the building of a new Centre. The Centre has full changing and showering facilities, baggage storage lockers, and good disabled access. It was developed in partnership with Bolton Council to be a one-stop-shop for health, well-being and fitness for everyone in the local community.
Outdoor Running Track
The all-weather Synthetic 8-lane 400m track with sprint extensions is fully certified for all Track & Field events. Floodlights allow training nights to go ahead throughout the dark Winter months (even in snow, though we’re not sure how much the lights affect this!). There is a lane discipline policy in place dependant on endurance, sprint or recovery activities, and the track is run the traditional anti-clockwise. For the steeplechase, the track’s situation necessitates an ‘opposite’ start. A slightly elevated, trackside viewing area is good for spectators.
Outdoor Jumping Areas/Equipment
Pole Vault – Levehulme Park boasts a state-of-the-art pole vault facility installed in 2010.
Long Jump – Dual take-off lanes to armadillo-protected sand-pits comprise the long jump facilities.
High Jump – Newly-installed as of Spring 2012, protective covers allow easy use of the outdoor High Jump mat.
Outdoor Throwing Areas/Equipment
Shot Put circle – There is a double sector area for competition and training use. Puts of various weights are owned by the club.
Javelin – The run-up and throw direction is given a degree of wind-protection by the nearby tree cover. The club uses a selection of Javelin developmental aids, from bazookas to Styrofoam missiles, and possesses a number of weighted Javelins.
Since its redevelopment, BUH&AC’s base can boast an impressive indoor 5-lane 60m track and sand pit for long jump. As of 2013, three gyms, complete with various weight and exercise machines, are also available.
