Great Edinburgh XC / Manchester Area XC

Saturday, 10th January 2015

Tom Lancashire was the first Briton across the line of the Men’s Short Race in the invitational Great Edinburgh XC. Covering the 4km around Arthur’s Seat in 12:35, he finished fifth overall in a strong international field, with USA’s Garrett Heath taking victory (12:11) amid some snow flurries. It was his latest success in a series of comeback races – the ‘comeback’ tagline will soon have to be dropped! Results

Closer to home, Bolton had non-counting representatives in the fourth Manchester Area Cross Country League fixture. Running at Heaton Park in the very windy and cold conditions were U11 duo Lily Philbin (14:35 – 28th) and Grace Tonge (15:59), and U13 trio Alice Tonge (12:16 – 10th), Ellie-Jo Ramsden (12:51) and Molly Philbin (12:55) – credit to Lily and Grace who competed over the same distance as the U13s, the furthest they’d ever ran. Leah Rushworth (16:33 – 30th) in the U15s and Katie Oakley (25:0 – 12th) in the U17s competed before Matt Lang (44:45 – 145th) and Nick Howarth (46:44) ran in the Senior Men’s race. Results

Elsewhere, Daryl Bentley (41:49 – 75th) and Chris Worthington (49:26 – 218th) completed the Garstang 10K. Results
