The Greater Manchester Sportshall County Team
Athletes from Bolton United Harriers joined forces with the likes of Wigan and Bury to form “The Greater Manchester Sportshall County Team” to compete in the Regional finals at Robin Park, Wigan. Teams came from Lancashire, Cheshire, Merseyside and Cumbria so the standard was high but the Bolton athletes took them all on winning a superb 15 medals. There were some magnificent performances and many Personal Bests which is quite a feat for a Regional competition, all the U13’s came away with at least 1 medal and the U13’s 4x2 and obstacle relay teams won with ease. The U15 boys won gold in the 2 lap, standing long jump and shot with Anthony Dunn throwing a brilliant P.B. of 10.53m then silver in the speed bounce and bronze in the triple, then went on to get silver place in the 4x2 relay with a complete Bolton team. One of the U15 Boys Josh Boaler had a superb day, not only did he win 2 gold medals (that’s 6 for the month) and 2 silver he scored the highest points of the competition and won the trophy for the most outstanding athlete.

Bowles Welcome Return
Ian Bowles made a welcome return to form ahead of the Bolton Harriers home league match on Sunday at Levehulme Park. The 23 year-old steeplechase specialist contested the Lytham 5k road race last Sunday and finished in a creditable time of 16:03 for fifth place. The inaugural staging of this race attracted a strong field, with Great Britain Marathon runner Thomas Abyu winning in 14:54 on a day when times were not fast. Bowles held back from the ferocious early pace set by Abyu and local runner Jon Prowse of Blackpool, and came through strongly to overhaul a number of fast-starting rivals, including clubmate Anthony Valentine, who placed 6th in 16:18.
