The AAA have been left a substantial bequest by an elderly lady, Mrs Louise Pink, for a children’s programme in memory of her son Tom who was tragically killed in an accident in the early 1950’s. Bolton Harriers continued in winning ways last weekend, lifting the British League Plate in Bedford. In a thrilling finish to the National competition for regional league clubs, Harriers won the medley relay to confirm victory in the match.
Katie Eckersley, Scott Whittle and Will Green all produced winning performances and personal best times in the Northern Knockout Cup last weekend. With all eyes on next weekend's British League Plate Final, and then the Northern League Divsion One Promotion Match, Harriers chose not to send a full team to this event, concentrating on individuals who wanted to sharpen up for the events to come.
Bolton Harriers were confirmed as Champions of Northern League Division 2 on Sunday after their 8th straight win in the competition. Harriers triumphed over Liverpool Pembroke Sefton by a huge margin of 24 points to 15 to retain the divisional title won last year. The season is far from over however, with the Promotion Match at Liverpool's Wavertree stadium on September 1st the priority. The men's team will also contest the Plate Final of the British League Cup after qualifying at Blackpool two weeks ago.
Bolton Harriers duo Tom Lancashire and Brian Hall were in sparkling form at the UK Championships and World Trial last weekend in Manchester. Lancashire picked up his first Senior National medal with Bronze in a tactical 1500m race, while High Jumper Hall came agonisingly close to the podium, eventually finishing 4th.
Bolton Harriers Senior team dominated once again in Northern League Division 2 to clinch the divisional title with only 3 of 4 matches completed. The club cannot now be caught and the priority now is the promotion match on September 1st, where the club should have a great chance of regaining Division 1 status.
TOM Lancashire is hoping to make a late bid for a place at next month's World Athletics Championships.
The Bolton middle distance star has an outside chance of representing his country for the first time at senior level in a competition second only to the Olympics in prestige.
But he accepts the odds are stacked against him after only recently returning from university in America and having his preparations hampered by fatigue.
Ian Bowles made a welcome return to form ahead of the Bolton Harriers home league match on Sunday at Levehulme Park. The 23 year-old steeplechase specialist contested the Lytham 5k road race last Sunday and finished in a creditable time of 16:03 for fifth place. The inaugural staging of this race attracted a strong field, with Great Britain Marathon runner Thomas Abyu winning in 14:54 on a day when times were not fast. Bowles held back from the ferocious early pace set by Abyu and local runner Jon Prowse of Blackpool, and came through strongly to overhaul a number of fast-starting rivals, including clubmate Anthony Valentine, who placed 6th in 16:18.

Makin Notches Double Win
Rebecca Makin notched a double win in the Javelin and Hammer as Bolton Harriers put up a strong performance in the National Junior League last weekend. Competing on home territory, the Under 20 team finished 3rd behind City of York and Spenborough. Rebecca threw the Hammer 29.40 metres, before launching the javelin 28.27m.
Simon Bissell recorded a superb treble as Bolton Harriers senior team continued its domination of Northern League Division 2 West. The team notched another resounding victory at Woodbank Park Stockport as thrower Bissell easily won his specialist event the Hammer, before adding wins in the Discus and Shot Putt.
Five of Bolton Harriers' young athletes crossed the Pennines last weekend to compete in the Northern Under 17 Chapionships in Leeds. All five performed well and progressed to the finals of their events with the club's Young Athlete of the Year, Rebecca Makin, picking up a Bronze medal in the Under 17 women's Javelin.
Sunday saw Bolton United Harriers host the second round of the YAL competition where Bolton won by over 80 points putting them top of the league. Again the U17s dominated the field events collecting P.B’s and high gradings along the way.
On Sunday the Young Athletes League began and Bolton Harriers traveled to Stockport for their first match. Despite the weather the athletes turned out P.B.’s galore and won the match by over 70 points. Rick Lowe won man of the match field event for his superb triple jump whilst Callum Short won man of the match track event for a brilliant run in the U13’s 1500 and Michael O’donnell had everyone in awe when he cleared a massive 3.10m in the pole vault which is 60cm up on his previous P.B. then did a triple by going on to win the hammer and the javelin.
Bolton Harriers Senior team launched its defence of the Division 2 title in impressive style on Saturday. Controversially denied promotion last season after the play-off match was canceled, Harriers are doubly determined to secure promotion to Northern League Division 1 this summer.
I'm sure you've all see the news acting a little strange lately, well this has been fixed and upgrades have taken place. You should be able to post comments on news articles. Also there are massive amounts of photos available in the photo albums section of the site!

Oriel hits top form
Oriel Hardman ran a superb personal best to win the Under 17 girls 800m in the Mid-Lancs league at Stanley Park, Blackpool. The 14 year-old knocked over 8 seconds off her best time to win a close battle with a Southport rival in 2:19.2. The Withins pupil now has her sights set on the English Schools qualifying time of 2:18. Harriers competed for the first time in this league and a team of 44 athletes of all ages acquitted themselves well in the season opener. For the senior men Simon Bissell was in great form and won the Hammer convincingly, also taking 3rd in the Javelin and Shot. On the track Christian Eckersley posted a good win in the 400m in 51.7, with Martin Gallyer 7th. Ales Drahokoupil was 3rd in the 800m, just failing to break the 2 minute barrier.New recruit Bruce Pilkington and Rick Cornwell sharpened up for their main event, the 400m, and joined Tom Monk in the 100m running times of 11.60s, 12.20 and 12.60, Bruce also running 200m in 23.8.
A MAGNIFICENT victory made Tom Carson one of the stars of the London Marathon.
The Bolton Harrier proved himself to be one of the country's fastest 14-year-olds by winning the under-15s mini-marathon race over the last 2.62 miles of the Marathon course.
A busy weekend for Bolton Harriers saw successes on a number of fronts. To add to Tom Carson and Callum Short's medal winning performances in the London Mini-Marathon, the club's star middle distance runner was back to winning ways across the Atlantic. Tom Lancashire cruised to a comfortable victory against quality opposition in the ACC 1500m Championships in Florida. Returning to his favoured distance for the first time this year, the Turton 21 year-old outpaced his rivals by a clear 3 seconds, with a blanket finish for Silver and Bronze medals being the only real race on show. Lancashire will next tackle the Regional Collegiate Championships, where he is sure to face a sterner test after suffering a surprise defeat last year.
FRASER Jardine proved he can mix it with the seniors with an impressive relay debut. The 16-year-old, pictured, is certain to be called up for Bolton Harriers' senior track team after a super run in the Haigh Hall Relays in Wigan. The club fielded four teams, which involved four runners each tackling a hilly course of just under four miles. The men's team finished third behind Salford and Blackpool, and the women's team fifth behind winners, Horwich. The men got off to a strong start with Tony Valentine finishing third on leg one behind Salford's Kenyan athlete, Tarus Elly.
A number of Bolton United Harriers athletes are collecting medals as though they’re going out of fashion. After so many superb performances at the Greater Manchester AA Championships, Amy Wilkinson, Tom Ruane, Josh Boaler, Alan Woods, Alex Vanderpuye, Josh Sabery, Robert Makin and Alex Cooper were invited to represent Greater Manchester County in the North West Regional Final at Robin Park last Sunday.
Bolton Harriers scooped up the top awards in this year's Sport Health and inclusion awards at Reebok Stadium on Friday. The event which was supported by Cllr Walter Hall the Mayor of Bolton and Sophie Hancock winner of silver medal in the world para-olympic championships and BBC personality in trekking across Africa in 'Beyond Boundaries'. The club and its members received three top awards - Club of the Year - Achiever of the Year, and, Young Volunteer of the Year. In addition the club had further nominations for the Lifetime Achievement and Achiever of the Year awards.
Middle distance runner, Tom Lancashire, began his season in style when he chopped eight seconds off his personal best time for 3,000m. The Turton 21-year-old opened up his 2007 campaign with a confidence-boosting run in New York Although Tom finished fifth in the New Balance Invitational meeting, he was just two seconds behind the winner of a top field in an event which is not his specialist distance.
The superb boys and girls of the under 15s sportshall athletic team at Bolton United Harriers are on a roll. During November, December and January they took part in the Greater Manchester Sporthall Athletic League competing against some of the top North West teams such as Trafford, Wigan, Bury and Altrincham. Every athlete excelled helping the team win each round and at the end of the competition the U11 girls took 3rd place, U13girls 4th place and U15 girls came 2nd, the boys went even further with the U11’s and U13’s coming 1st and the U15’s coming 2nd, culminating in a win of 796 points, 305 points clear of the second team, Trafford. Then last Sunday they took part in the Greater Manchester AA Championships, again our athletes made us very proud and on the day gave 110%, most of them achieving personal bests. Altogether 41 medals were won - 22 gold, 9 silver and 10 bronze.
Tom Carson continued his excellent form with a Silver medal winning performance at the Greater Manchester Cross Country Championships last weekend. Carson, leader of the Red Rose Cross Country League Under 15s, finished runner-up to a strong performance by Sale Harrier James Beckett on the 6km course at Chesham Fields in Bury. Carson will be in action in the final league race at Rossendale this weekend after winning the last two races in the series.
Recent recruit Tom Carson produced an emphatic victory and veteran John Ward made it a league hat-trick for Bolton Harriers in last weekend’s Red Rose League at Hyndburn.
Tom Lancashire underlined his current strong Cross Country form with one of his best ever championship finishes on the US college circuit. The 21 year-old Bolton Harrier is in his fourth year as track and field scholarship student at Florida State University and last weekend produced an excellent 5th place in the South Regional Championships in Tennessee. Following home a strong quartet of Kenyan athletes, Lancashire achieved the rare distinction of beating his FSU teammate and reigning Regional Champion, Scotsman Andrew Lemoncello, the top-ranked runner in the UK over 10,000m. The duo led their college to an unexpected victory in the team race.
The recent Red Rose League at Bury saw some superb runs by Bolton Harriers athletes. The highlight was a tremendous run by new recruit Tom Carson, who marked his debut for the club with a resounding win in the Under 15 boys’ race, leading his new team to victory. He was backed up by another fine performance by Matt Longworth in 3rd, and the winning trio was completed by Andrew Griffin in 15th, closely followed by Jacob McManus one place behind. The evergreen John Ward made it a double win in the Over 55s category, finishing 57th from over 150 in the open race. Eric Ranicar was close behind as 2nd Over 55 and 60th overall.
BOLTON athlete Chris Mulvaney is determined to make his mark on the British middle distance scene next season. The 25-year-old is still relatively unknown despite being ranked in the top group of 1,500m runners in the country.
But he aims to put that right next season with the ultimate ambition of representing Great Britain in next summer’s World Championships. Chris of Heaton, even harbours dreams of getting among the medals at the event ranked second in stature only to the Olympic Games. And, while that might seem out of reach for a man whose personal best is 11 seconds slower than the world record, the Bolton Harrier is no stranger to winning races.
At the recent Northern League match at Bolton, Brian Hall set a new league record of 2.14m in the high jump. Those of you who saw the high jump stands set up with the bar at this height in the track reception shortly after the match will realise exactly what a feat this is. Needless to say, Brian contributed maximum points to the team score on the day. Well done, Brian!
