The fell-ish Marl Pits hosted the Red Rose finale as usual, with wet conditions underfoot and muddy steep descents as expected. As Team Manager Dean Johnson says, “If you can run through mud and rain and hills, you can take on and conquer whatever else may come along.”
Today, John Knowles’ 14th saw him second in the veteran’s series and seventh overall in the open men’s – a sterling result, whilst Rachel Bailey’s 24th saw her finish third in the U20 series’ standing and 20th overall. Their podiums meant they join Jonny Kay and Katie Oakley, who did not race but had already clinched the series first and third spots respectively. Bolton’s Men also took the series’ Team runners-up spot.
For the juniors, there were multiple series counters (those who have completed at least three of the four races) – an impressive achievement, with top ten positions being taken by Harvey Kenny (U11), Laurence Britton (U13) and Lewis Aldred (U17); U11 Scarlett Thompson’s 13th was very close. Congratulations to all.
