Eden Penketh was the big favourite in the U11 100m field, but a poor start thwarted his chances of gold. He recovered week to snaffle silver, with clubmate Vincent Worthington coming a strong third.
Harvey Kenny then cruised to 800m gold in 2:40 – five seconds clear of second place.
The Long Jump followed with the Bolton lads occupying the entire podium. Harvey grabbed gold with his second jump of 3.93m, whilst Vinny and Eden were second and third respectively, both with PBs.
Last race of the day was the 200m, with all three junior Blue Vests lining up in different heats. The time trial format meant the tension was high but they didn’t disappoint, with Eden clocking the fastest time and Harvey and Vinny in a dead heat for second.
With each athlete collecting three medals each and domination in the long jump and 200m, it was a great day. There’s good potential for the Bolton trio when they move up to the YDL-competitive U13 level next year.
