Sunday 25th July saw the annual Race The Train event. Human versus machine as runners set off to beat the steam engine from Bury Station to Rawtenstall Station.Rachel Bailey, Beka Millington and Thomas Gore from Bolton Harrier’s Endurance Group, took off at the sound of the guard’s whistle along dusty railside trails and the River Irwell.All three had gathered their own head of steam, kept on track (bar a fall for Rachel) for 11 gruelling miles in warm temperatures, and arrived on Rawtenstall platform before the ‘Fat Controller’ had finished his tea and biscuits and welcomed the train to a hissing, steaming halt. A victorious morning for our trio of ‘Blue Vests’.Rachel was first lady back in 1;20;11, Thomas clocked 1;19;33 and Beka 1;33;31. Congratulations to all three of them.
